# FAQs

## Where do our puppies come from?

Our pets come from a select group of USDA licensed, inspected and regulated professional and hobby breeders who have years of experience in raising quality family pets. Petland puppies are veterinarian checked prior to arriving at our store and veterinarian checked while in our care.

## Will my puppy be registered?

There are several canine registries (The American Kennel Club, (AKC), APR, ACA, UKC) and others. Most of our puppies are registrable. You will be given the opportunity to register your new puppy at the time of purchase.

## What does it mean to have a registered puppy?

Buying a registered, purebred puppy means that its family tree is documented as being exclusively one breed. Buying a registered dog does not necessarily mean that the dog will be healthier than a non-registered dog. It means that its parents are of the same breed and that the dog comes from a purebred line. AKC (American Kennel Club) is the most familiar purebred dog registry in the country. There are several other dog registries such as ACA, APR, UKC that also register purebred dogs.

## Will my puppy be microchipped?

Yes, all of our puppies are microchipped before purchase. And the microchip will be registered to you when you take your puppy home. If your puppy should ever become lost, there is a good chance that your puppy will be recovered because it has a registered microchip. In a pets lifetime, one out of three will become lost. Without enrollment registration and identification about ninety percent will not be recovered.

## What breeds are best for people who have allergies?

People who have allergies should consider dogs that shed very little. Breeds to consider are:Poodle, Bichon, Maltese, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Puli, and Havanese. Other low shedding breeds include: Miniature Pinscher, Bedlington Terrier, Chinese Crested, Irish Water Spaniel, Yorkshire Terrier, Kerry Blue Terrier, Shih Tzu, Poodle crosses and Schnauzer

## How does Petland ensure the puppies come from good sources?

Petland is dedicated to providing our community the best puppies possible. That starts by working with great breeders. We work with USDA licensed, AKC inspected, and State licensed professional breeders and hobbyist breeders. Additionally our owner, managers and pet counselors take multiple trips every year to visit our breeders. These visits ensure that our breeders are meeting our standards and give us an opportunity to discuss with our breeders how to improve our puppy program. We are always looking for the socialization, veterinary care, and exercise of both the puppies and their parents. In recent years we have been working with breeders to do more OFA(Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and genetic testing.

## What happens to puppies you don’t sell?

All of our puppies are adopted by our customers. The typical Petland puppy is in our store for less than 10 days. Petland has been in business for nearly 55 years. We know what puppies are going to find homes quickly. We work with wonderful breeders who select great puppies for us. If, for some reason, no one adopts a particular puppy in a short amount of time, we work hard to find the puppy home with adoption specials. We are very good at this. Our pet counselors undergo extensive and ongoing training in matching our puppies with our customers.

## What happens when a puppy goes home?

Petland makes every effort to help puppies transition smoothly into their new homes. Before a puppy goes home with a new family, trained Petland Pet Counselors help match the right pet with the right customer to ensure the needs of both are met. Customers receive counseling from Petland Pet Counselors on the responsibilities of pet ownership. Discussions on housebreaking, chewing, grooming and nutrition are among the topics reviewed. Petland promotes ongoing veterinary care and offers a complimentary veterinary exam once the puppy is home. Petland supports a Spay/Neuter program and offers literature explaining the benefits of this common, low risk medical procedure. When a Petland puppy goes home, the new owner also receives a Puppy Resource Kit. This kit includes a basic canine obedience training support with a toll-free phone number for free consultations with a certified canine trainer for the life of the Petland pet. It also includes information on Petland’s Enhanced Protection Program, a lost pet recovery service. And with its Pets for a Lifetime! SM program, Petland attempts to ensure the pets it places into homes never burden an animal shelter. Petland’s program helps Petland customers find new homes for their pets if, for any reason, the owner can no longer fulfill the lifetime care responsibility.

Petland Leon Valley 758 Google reviews Write a review Posted on Google Karina R Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My dad got my Malti-poo from this store 6yrs ago when I was a teen. We bought him at 3mo old! He was a happy puppy. My family requested to play with him in the little cubicles and we were delighted. He was a little pricey, but he had his papers, proper shots/vaccines, and had an underbite that made him adorable. He’s doing well even today! Never gotten injured or sick. He’s expected to live the normal expectancy of a malti-poo.
I don’t remember much about the store or any changes since then, but I remember that the lady helping us was nice!

Also have some birds, rabbits and a few sleepy ferrits. I stopped in for some feeder fish. Very nice staff. Loved the exotic birds Posted on Google Melinda R Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was my 2nd time back. My daughter has been wanting another set of guinea pigs. I saw the most beautiful lionhead rabbit 🐇 about 7 weeks. LORENZO educated me on their demeanor, foods etc... I was there a good while, he showed no signs of rushing me, or pushing a sale. Answered all my questions and even educated me on ferrets as i asked lol he loves his job & wish all associates were like this everywhere! I was very pleased 😀 didn't grab the rabbit as my daughter took forever to answer me, but we're leaving for vacation and would not be cool to leave him alone . We will be back! And I will only ask for him! Thank you for the great customer service!
