Meet Puppies at Petland Shavano Park and Petland Leon Valley

The right puppy can turn an ordinary day into something your family looks forward to. Finding that companion begins with a conversation about the life you can offer: the time you have, the activities you enjoy, and the care you are ready to provide. At Petland San Antonio, our teams at Shavano Park and Leon Valley help you explore those questions while getting to know our available puppies.

We want you to understand the information behind your decision. Visit our Commitment to Transparency and Responsible Puppy Care page to learn about sourcing standards, veterinary oversight, health records, and guidance for new owners. Then bring your questions to the store so we can discuss the details for the puppy who interests you.

A Puppy Search Built Around Your Household

Some families picture a companion for an active routine. Others want a dog whose needs suit a quieter home. Either way, it helps to look beyond size and appearance. Adult exercise needs, coat care, training, and the time a puppy will spend with people all belong in the discussion.

Our Pet Counselors explain four areas of pet care: behavioral, environmental, maintenance, and nutritional needs. Tell us about children, existing pets, your daily schedule, and your experience with dogs. We can help you compare breeds, consider the responsibilities ahead, and spend time learning about individual puppies. You can also browse our puppy breed information before your visit.

Ask About the Breeder Behind Your Puppy

Knowing where a puppy comes from is an important part of choosing one. Our breeder information describes selection standards that consider applicable licensing, compliance history, animal welfare, and veterinary care. The owner and managers also travel to breeder facilities to learn about the sources they work with.

Our transparency page explains support for Canine Care Certified breeders and notes that certification should be confirmed for the individual breeder. Ask what background information and documentation are available for the puppy you are considering. Our team can help you understand those records and identify questions you would like answered before making a commitment.

Health Information You Can Review Before Purchase

According to our puppy care program, puppies are examined by the breeder’s veterinarian before arrival and checked by our veterinarian within 48 hours of reaching the store. Consulting veterinarians also oversee in-store healthcare protocols and preventive care. Learn more on our veterinary care page.

Puppy health records are available before purchase. Review the signed health certificate, vaccination history, deworming information, and any instructions that apply to your puppy. This is a useful opportunity to clarify what care has been completed and what your own veterinarian should review next.

Our Petland Cares page explains how veterinary direction, suitable housing, socialization, and owner education contribute to our care program. We encourage families to ask about both the puppy’s current routine and the practical steps involved in continuing care at home.

What Our Puppy Package Includes

Planning for homecoming is easier when you know what accompanies your puppy. Our puppy package page outlines care, identification, and registration benefits. Ask a counselor to explain the current inclusions and your puppy’s paperwork, including:

  • A signed health certificate and current vaccination and deworming records.
  • A free initial health examination through the participating veterinary locations listed in the program.
  • Microchipping and registration through Help Me Find My Pet.
  • AKC or AKC Canine Partners registration paperwork, unless otherwise disclosed.
  • A 14-day warranty for listed contagious diseases and a three-year congenital and hereditary health warranty, with exclusions and limitations.

Read the written warranty carefully before purchase. Confirm the examination timeline, coverage limits, exclusions, and steps for requesting assistance. Our website’s package summary is a starting point for that conversation; your written terms explain the requirements that apply.

From Your First Visit to Your First Evening Together

  1. Choose the right store to contact. Browse the listings and confirm whether your preferred puppy is at Shavano Park or Leon Valley.
  2. Meet with a Pet Counselor. Talk through breed traits, household fit, daily care, and the puppy’s available background information.
  3. Review the details. Take time with health records, package information, purchase paperwork, and warranty requirements.
  4. Prepare for home. Discuss feeding, a safe sleeping space, appropriate supplies, early training, and the follow-up veterinary visit.

Our care page describes training resources, a training kennel and supplies, and guidance for new owners. Ask what is included with your puppy and how to access the resources. Bring a list of questions about meals, house training, teething, and grooming so you can leave with a clearer plan for the first days together.

Welcoming Families Across San Antonio and Beyond

My dad got my Malti-poo from this store 6yrs ago when I was a teen. We bought him at 3mo old! He was a happy puppy. My family requested to play with him in the little cubicles and we were delighted. He was a little pricey, but he had his papers, proper shots/vaccines, and had an underbite that made him adorable. He’s doing well even today! Never gotten injured or sick. He’s expected to live the normal expectancy of a malti-poo. I don’t remember much about the store or any changes since then, but I remember that the lady helping us was nice! Here is Marshmallow!

Lots of dogs for adoption, well taken care of. Also have some birds, rabbits and a few sleepy ferrits. I stopped in for some feeder fish. Very nice staff.

This was my 2nd time back. My daughter has been wanting another set of guinea pigs. I saw the most beautiful lionhead rabbit 🐇 about 7 weeks. LORENZO educated me on their demeanor, foods etc... I was there a good while, he showed no signs of rushing me, or pushing a sale. Answered all my questions and even educated me on ferrets as i asked lol he loves his job & wish all associates were like this everywhere! I was very pleased 😀 didn't grab the rabbit as my daughter took forever to answer me, but we're leaving for vacation and would not be cool to leave him alone . We will be back! And I will only ask for him! Thank you for the great customer service!
